Crossley Gallery welcomes you to the opening night of “Inviting the Third Person”, a show produced by two junior Fine Artists Sarah Valdez and Jenny Vu. Both artists were recently featured in “Ablution”, a show curated by William Ball in collaboration with Mencia Gallery in Boston, Massachusetts. In addition their work has been represented and awarded in the 2008 Best of Ringling, as well as presented in “Realia”, a show curated by Fine Art senior Kayla Carlson.
A majority of the pieces that will be shown are recent, though earlier collaborative video work will be exhibited. Sarah Valdez will present a series of small and large interactive installations, transforming common construction materials into intimate and curious objects and observances. She will also be performing with willing participants using live feed in a game-like interface. Jenny Vu will share her experience and recent quest with painting by displaying several small portrait multiples, larger figurative paintings on paper, and earlier abstractions. Though both artists have diverged from their early collaborative work, both still find a significant source of inspiration and strength in what has directed their new paths.
