The Crossley Gallery and Ringling College of Art & Design is proud to present “Implacable Creature,” with an opening reception on the 11th of November, 2008 from 7-10pm. Fine Art Juniors Mikaela Raquel Williams and Amanda Seckington will show separate bodies of work in the gallery. Recent exhibitions by both artists include the COSMIX exhibition at the South Florida Museum and the collaborative student show ‘Realia’ in the spring of 2008. The COSMIX pieces consisted of successful installations by both artists and an additional video/performance by Williams. In addition, they are both recipients of the Women Contemporary Artist Scholarship.
Amanda Seckington recently attended the summer residency program at the prestigious School of Video Arts in Manhattan, New York. She presents large-scale sculptures that utilize a wide array of materials and selected references to inflatables.
Mikaela Williams is twenty years old and from Titusville, Florida. Williams creates a unified dialogue of installation, sculpture, drawing, video and performance through compelling uses of materials and color. “The work initiates hand made personal storytelling methods that use the literal vs. abstract qualities of narratives brought together in order to create an engrossing environment… The work has shown increasing dependency on surreal visuals of density and complexity. My endless curiosity for the capacity of art is mainly fueled by goals of taking personal emotions and making them tangible.”
